So the Republicans are cracking down on Freedom of Assembly. I know they aren't well known for their love of the Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, but seriously y'all. The anarchists? They are the most absolutely harmless group out there. At the DNC, there were many, many anarchist protesters. And you know how much trouble they caused? Absolutely zero.
The Republicans, though, want to scare these kids into not showing up. They sent thirty officers in with guns drawn to confront and photograph a bunch of peace-niks. Actions like this, these needless shows of force, are nothing more than a sign that the 'Pubs are on the run. That they know they're loosing. As one of the folks I talked to as I was leaving Invesco field the other night said, "Those people are about to shit their pants."
The problem is this: A scared, hurt beast, even though it's on its way out, can be far more dangerous in it's senseless lashing out than a healthy beast simply trying to say stay fed. As we learned in the case of poor Bill Gwatney and the victims of the Unitarian Church killer in Tennesse, people with sense and souls are living in dangerous times. We all need to be a little bit more careful.
