I credit Derek Webb's music for challenging me when I was a conservative Christian, and then being the only religious music that I could listen to for years through my spiritual journey away from a church that equated faith with intolerance and privilege.

Now, I have returned to the Catholic Church of my childhood. That's not to say that the Catholic Church has it all together - not even close - but Catholic theologians committed to feminism (e.g. Elizabeth Johnson) and liberation of the oppressed (e.g. Jon Sobrino) have finally made me realize that my desire for justice need not run contrary to my faith life; in fact, at this point, faith and justice are inextricable for me.

There are very few people, books, or artists who have been constants through this spiritual journey, but Derek Webb is one of them. I'm glad you discovered him!
